Sainev Bojang of Gambia scored a couple of goals to guide Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to move into the semifinal defeating Saif Sporting Club by 2-1 in the Walton Federation Cup football tournament yesterday.
In the closely contested second quarterfinal match at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital, Bjoan scored two for Jamal while Denier Cordoba reduced one for Saif Sporting Club.
Saif Sporting Club, who appeared in the premier competition last year with huge commitments comprising a strong team roping in a bunch of national colours, foreign coaches, conditioning camp in Kolkata, in fact they did all to win the league or tournaments (Federation and Independence Cup) title.
But they could not outdo the traditional powerhouses and had to finish the season without any trophy when they were eliminated from the group phase after a one all draw with Abahani Limited in their debut match conceding solitary goal defeat to Muktijoddha.
This season Saif secured the quarterfinal place outplaying Team BJMC by -3-1 in the opener and drubbed Brothers Union by 5-0.
However, on the day Saif looked very impressive right from the beginning of the match taking on the experienced Jamal with offensive mood and also put the opponents under immense pressure in the very initial stage.
But when the match was heading on with equally footing, just on the half an hour mark Bojang led Jamal with a solo lead. The Gambian smartly broke the offside trap and received a lofted ball from the captain Solomon King in an open space before beating Saif goalkeeper Ziaur Rahman Zia in an one on one situation on (1-0).
After the 1-0 lead, Jamal again went closer to double their margin on 61st minute but this time their Argentine forward Luciano Emanuel Perej disappointed all unbelievably failing to push a Bojang cutback from a handshaking distance.
This time also the match progressing with entertaining way with attacks weaved from both ends and Saif came to level the margin on 71st minute when after failing to finish a close range chance, Andres Deiner Cordoba of Colombia fired home 30 yards long rage shot (1-1).
Jamal, who had a bit better control in the match in term of creating scoring chances regain the lead just five minutes later when it was a superb finish of Gambian duo after Soloman King’s close cutback was headed home by his compatriot Bojan (2-1).
