‘Safe poultry production urgent to protect public health’

RAJSHAHI: Experts at a workshop here have observed that production of safe poultry birds is urgent to protect public health from various infectious and chronic diseases. They urged all stakeholders concerned to work together to ensure safe poultry production. Poultry farmers, hatchery owners, poultry bird sellers, feed meal manufacturers and sellers and other concerned should play their due role to attain the cherished goal, the experts said.

The daylong workshop on food safety in poultry sector was arranged at Barnoi Seminar Hall of Paba Upazila Parishad Complex in the district yesterday. Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) organised the participatory workshop in association with a project titled ‘Food Safety Governance in Poultry Sector in Bangladesh’.

Deputy director of Department of Environment (DoE) Mamunur Rahman, BSTI senior assistant director Ashlam Sheikh, local unit CAB president Kazi Nazmul Islam, Nawhata Pourasava panel mayor Tazma Islam Parul and Baya Market Committee president Abdur Razzaque, among others, spoke at the workshop with upazila nirbahi officer Zahid Newaj in the chair. During his presentations, CAB field coordinator Omor D Costa and field officer Mofidul Islam highlighted various aspects of marketing safe poultry birds.
