Housewife hacked dead by ‘husband’ in Sherpur

A housewife was hacked to death allegedly by her husband over a family feud at Paschimpara village in Nalitabari upazila early yesterday, reports UNB from Sherpur. The deceased was identified as Bilkis Begum, 25, wife of Ismail Hossain of the village. Police said Ismail Hossain, son of late Tofazzal Hossain of Haluaghat upazila in Mymensingh district married Bilkis Begum, daughter of Amzad Hossain of Nalitabari upazila, seven years back. Bilkis, by the time, got a job at a garment factory in the capital three years back and used to live in the capital because of her job.  The couple used to fight with each other over the issue. Bilkis along with his husband and daughter came to her parents’ house for celebrating Eid-ul-Azha here. Ismail picked up a quarrel with Bilkis over the same issue early Sunday and at one stage he stabbed Bilkis with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured. Later, she was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead. Four people, including Khaleda Begum, Bilkis mother, Nur Islam, her maternal uncle and two neighbours, Ajufa and Abdul Kuddus, were also injured in the attack as they tried to save Bilkis.
