Zimbabwe to play with positive mindset: Jarvis

Zimbabwe fast bowler Kyle Jarvis believed the injury-forced absence of Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal would make their task easy in the upcoming series against Bangladesh in which they didn’t do well in the recent past.

“They have been the world class players and most valuable players for Bangladesh. Shakib has been the No. 1 all-rounder. So there will be some comfort in absence of them,” he said yesterday during the break of their practice session at the National Academy Ground in Mirpur.

“Bangladesh are tough opposition and at their home ground they are tougher than the anticipation. They have beaten almost all top guns at their home ground. So everybody knows how tough opposition they are.”

But that doesn’t mean Zimbabwe wouldn’t give it at a shot to win the series here, said Jarvis.

“No one comes in any tour expecting that they would loss the series. We are here to win the series whatever the strength of the opposition is. We’ll come all guns blazing here. We have the positive mindset,” the paceman added.

Zimbabwe toured in this country more than any other team in the world cricket and knew the condition well. Moreover some of the Zimbabwe players are the regular visitor in Bangladesh due to their association with the BPL and the country’s domestic cricket. Jervis said it would be an added advantage.

“Four of five our players played in the BPL. So that’s an added advantage for us. We are looking for them. At the same time, there are no Shakib and Tamim. We are positive about our chance,” he opined. Jarvis however admitted, dealing with Bangladesh spinners would be their main challenge and if they could overcome them, they would have the chance to bag the series. He said that this time they are more equipped to tackle the spinners here. “We are well prepared, knowing that they would try to beat us through their spin attack. We have recently played some top spinners of the world. We are aware of the challenge,” he said.

He rued for missing the leg-spinner Graeme Cremer to injury but is excited after seeing the 21-year old leggie Brendan Mavuta who he thought could play well here.

“He is an exciting challenge and has the chance to do well here. Moreover we have the likes of Shaun Williams, Sikandar Raza, Wellington Masakadza who could spin the ball well. We are hoping for the best,” he concluded.
