If moviegoers are asked to choose three of the most popular heroines from the last three decades, the name of Shabnur will definitely be in that list. Today marks the silver jubilee of Shabnur’s film career.
Back in 1993 on this day (October 15), Shabnur made her film debut with ‘Chandi Raate’ directed by late legendary director Ehtesham. Though the movie was not commercially successful, her next film with Salman Shah, ‘Tumi Amar’, directed by the late Zahirul Haq, was an instant hit. After that, she did not have to look back. Pairing up with Salman Shah, the actress gained huge popularity for her superhit films like ‘Bikkhobh’, ‘Tomake Chai’, ‘Swanper Thikana’, ‘Mohamilon’, ‘Bichar Hobe’, ‘Jibon Sangsar’ and ‘Anando Oshru’.
Besides, starring opposite Omar Sani, Shabnur’s two films titled ‘Premer Ahonkar’ and ‘Odhikar Chai’ were also commercially successful. After the demise of Salman Shah, Shabnur paired up with Riaz in different films and the duo also came up with a few more successful projects.
It can be said that Shabnur ruled the film industry for 15 years since 1993. The actress earned her only National Film Award for ‘Dui Noyoner Alo’, directed by Mostafizur Rahman Manik, in 2005.
About her eventful journey in the film industry, Shabnur said: “It is as if all of this had happened in the blink of an eye! So many faces are no more with us today—it really hurts when I think of them. I still all right thanks to the grace of Allah.”
“I’m grateful to everyone who were with me during my long journey. With everyone’s support, I have become today’s Shabnur. I want to live a healthy and prosperous life with everyone,” she added.
