At least two persons were killed and 10 others injured in a clash yesterday allegedly between two factions of the Awami League (AL) in Bogargut village under Karimpur union in Narsingdi Sadar upazila. The clash took place around 8am over establishing dominance in the area, according to police. The deceased were identified as Anowar Ali, 34, and Motalib, 30, both residents of Bogergut village. Police, witnesses and medical sources said about 70–80 people, led by Bachcu, leader of a faction, attacked the houses of followers of Kamal, a local strong man and leader of another faction. Kamal and his supporters tried to resist the raiders. Anowar Ali died on the spot in the clash that ensued. Narsingdi Sadar police rushed to the spot. They rescued the injured persons and sent them to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. The doctor
in the emergency department referred two of them to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where Motalib later died.
The rest are undergoing treatment at the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.
The body of Anowar Ali was sent to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
When contacted, Narsingdi Sadar police station officer-in-charge Sayeduzzaman told The Independent that there was a long-standing feud between Kamal and Bachchu over establishing supremacy in the area.
Locals said Anowar Ali supported Bachchu Mia and Motalib was a supporter of the group led by Kamal.
No case has been registered in this regard till the time of filing this report.
