Two separate cases were filed under section 57 against two young men of Kotalipara upazila in Gopalganj district for making derogatory comments against the prime minister on Facebook, reports UNB. The accused have been identified as Mafiz Khan, 36, son of late Liakat Ali Khan of Bomnkura village and Tushar Gain, 24, son of Jadab Chandra Gain hailing from Razapur village of the same upazila. Police sources said Mafiz Khan had been making scornful comments against prime minister Sheikh Hasina on his Facebook account. On February 13, Bedar Uddin Jony, secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra Leaguue of Kotalipur Upazila Unit, filed a complaint against him with Kotalipara Police Station Later, the police took up the allegation as a FIR after a long investigation on September 25.
In another incident, Chairman of Ramshil Union Parishad, registered a complaint against Tushar Gain with Kotalipara Police Station on July 28, that too was later shifted to an FIR after conducting a long investigation.
Officer-in-Charge of Kotalipara Police Station Mohammad Quamrul Faruk said police took up the charges as General Dairy (GD) and sent them to police headquarters after the investigations completed. "We took up two separate FIRs according to the directions from the headquarters," Faruk said.
