Liton, Fizz to make giant stride in BPL

Liton Das and Mustafizur Rahman are all set to get the rewards of their good show in international cricket as they are to unleash as the Icon in the next edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), replacing Sabbir Rahman and Soumya Sarkar.

Sabbir Rahman and Soumya found them in Icon list along with Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad in the last season of the cash-rich tournament, though at considerable lower price than the Fab Five. However the poor form meant they are to be eliminated from that elite list. Sabbir who is currently serving a six-month ban following his misdemeanor off the field will be back in action through BPL but is set to start as normal player.

Sabbir was the Icon of Sylhet Sixers while Soumya played in Chittagong Vikings who is in dilemma to whether they should discontinue the tournament. BCB however has been in touch with them to play the tournament.

Liton’s good show in the T20 series against West Indies and career-changing performance in the final of Asia Cup brought him in the consideration to be Icon. Mustafizur Rahman on the other hand gave the glimpse of Mustafizur of his old, making him the ideal candidate in the Icon post.

Liton however played in Comilla Victorians in which Tamim Iqbal was the Icon. Since Comilla is eager to get the service of Tamim again, Liton would have to change the team. No team can take two Icon players simultaneously.

Mustafizur played in Rajshahi Kings in which  Mushfiqur Rahim was the Icon. According to the close source of the franchise, they are now keen to take Mustafizur as their Icon.

However a franchise can retain four players including the foreign recruit from the previous year, according to the rules set by the BPL governing council. The last date of the players retention was September 30. It is learnt all of the franchisees sans Chittagong Vikings sent their players’ retention list to the BPL governing council.

The governing council however expected that the Chittagong Vikings will change their mindset and if not, they will go with six teams in this season.
