Flood situation in northern districts may deteriorate

The Jamuna is continuing to overflow and threatening to overrun the low-lying areas of Sirajganj. The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) said yesterday that the flood situation could deteriorate slightly in Jamalpur, Bogra and Gaibandha districts in the next 24 hours. According to FFWC, the Jamuna was flowing 7 cm above its danger level (DL) of 19.82 metres yesterday. By receiving the waters of the swollen Brahmaputra upstream, the river has taken a menacing form in the northern region. Flooding by the Jamuna has become an annual affair, particularly in the flood-ravaged region of Fulchhari  at Gaibandha and in Sariakandi of Bogra. In Bogra, the river has risen up to 14cm and currently flowing almost 12cm above the danger mark of 19.82 metres.
