Huge medicines, gold seized at

Custom officials in separate drives seized a consignment of illegally imported medicines, 10 gold bars, 288 cartons of cigarettes and 13 kilograms of gold ornaments at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram yesterday and on Saturday night, report agencies.

Customs Intelligence officials yesterday seized a consignment of illegally imported medicines worth Tk 1 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Director General Dr Shahidul Islam said Jamal, a passenger, arrived at the airport by a flight TK-0712 from Egypt around 5 am. When Jamal was trying to cross the green zone of the airport, the CIID team intercepted him and recovered the medicines from his two luggages.

The seized medicines included Duphaston-12,000 pieces, Mixtard-2000 pieces, Neoral 25 mg-15000 pieces, Neoral 50 mg-2000 pieces and Novo Rapid-250 pieces.

Later, the customs officials seized the passport of Jamal.

Meanwhile, customs officials seized 10 gold bars and 288 cartons of cigarettes at Shah Amanat International Airport yesterday  morning. Being tipped-off, a team of Customs Intelligence officials detained Assaduzzaman and Kamal Uddin who came from Muscat, Oman by a flight of Regent Airways in possession of 10 gold bars weighing 1.16 kg around 10 am, said Assistant Commissioner of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Mahabubur Rahman. The custom officials also seized 288 cartons of foreign cigarettes worth over Tk 5.91 lakh from the luggages of two passengers of Biman flight at 12 noon, he added.

On the other hand, the members of National Security Agency (NSI) on Saturday night arrested a man and seized 13 kilograms of gold ornaments worth around Tk 6.50 crore from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
