Reshuffle in top tiers of police admin soon

Ahead of the parliamentary polls, scheduled in December this year, the government is soon going to reshuffle the top tiers of the police administration from the ranks of superintendent of police (SP) to additional inspector general. The police headquarters have already prepared several lists from the ranks of superintendent of police (SP), additional deputy inspector general of police, deputy inspector general of police and additional inspector general of police. These lists have been sent to the Public Security Division of the home ministry, said sources.

After receiving the lists, two informal meetings were recently held at the Public Security Division. Senior officials of the division and senior officers of the police headquarters were present at the meetings, the sources also said.

The officials concerned will soon have a meeting with the home minister to decide on the number of police officers to be reshuffled and the time of the new postings, they added. The government has decided to reshuffle the police administration after senior ruling party leaders recently spoke of a poll-time government being formed by mid October.

When contacted, a senior official of the Public Security Division told The Independent that the posting of police officers was a routine task. “The reshuffle in the police administration would be carried out in keeping with the directives of the high-ups,” he said.

He also said that some police officers in the top tiers were promoted recently.Sources said a handful of SPs, additional DIGs and DIGs have been working in their respective duty stations in different areas in the police administration for the last couple of areas. The reshuffle in the police administration will be carried out on the basis of performance and good record, they added.
