Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md. Asaduzzaman Mia yesterday said it was a must to create awareness among the people to obey traffic rule alongside with development of infrastructure, reports BSS. He said this while visiting overall activities of traffic police at Shahbagh in the capital marking the month-long awareness campaign started from September 4 and to be continued over the month. “It would be tougher for police alone to bring discipline in the traffic management system without creating awareness among the people on not to violate the traffic rule,” he also said.
The DMP chief has vowed to take action against police personnel if they are found involved in traffic rule violation. Among others, Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md Akhteruzzaman, President of Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, DU Proctor Prof Golam Rabbani, City Planner Prof Shamsul Haque, Columnist Syed Abul Maksud and Chairman of Nirapad Sarok Chai (We demand Safe Road) Ilias Kanchon, were present on the occasion. A rally marking the traffic awareness program was later brought out with participation of a large number of students, rover scouts, girls’ guides, transport owners and workers. Leaflets on traffic awareness were distributed among the people from the rally.
