Six ‘criminals’ arrested
Detectives in separate drives arrested six alleged criminals, including three stamp forgers and an illegal arms trader, from different parts of the capital on Friday night. A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested three people, including an alleged arms trader, along with one pistol, one shooter gun and 12 rounds of cartridges from Shah Ali area in the city in the night, said Muntasirul Islam, deputy commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. In another drive, a team of DB police arrested three stamp forgers along with forged stamps worth over Tk18.20 lakh in the capital. Identities of the arrestees could not be known immediately.

Two held with pistol

Police yesterday arrested two alleged firearms dealers and recovered a loaded pistol and magazine from capital’s Bashabo area. The arrestees are Sheikh M Raju and M Sohel, said a press release. Acting on a tip off a police team raided the area and arrested them while they were dealing firearms with a party, added the press release. 750 yaba tablets seized
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug trader with 750 pieces of yaba tablets in Roypara area under Rajpara Police Station in Rajshahi on Friday night, RAB sources said here yesterday.
The arrested was Khorshed Alam, 26, son of Aktar Hossain, of the same area. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a sudden raid in the area at around 8.40 pm and arrested him with the contraband drugs.
The arrested person and seized goods were handed over to the police and a case was recorded with Rajpara Police Station in this connection.
    
Police arrest six robbers

Police in a drive arrested six dacoits from Bisharkandi area under Banaripara upazila in Barisal on Thursday night. Police also seized a firearm and a sharp weapon from their possession. The arrestees are Rana Hawladar, 33, Kasem Khan, 35, Mijanur Rahman, 36, M Noyan, 29, Suvanka, 30 and M Sumon Sheikh, 36 of different upazilas of the district. On secret information, a team of police raided the area and arrested them while they were preparing to commit robbery, police sources said.

Woman drug peddler jailed

In an anti-drugs operation, a mobile court has sentenced a drug trader woman to two years jail in Charghat Upazila in Rajshahi on Friday, police sources here said yesterday. The convicted woman was identified as Ganjera Begum, 35, wife of Zinnat Ali of Luxmipur village under the same upazila. Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Charghat Upazila, said on a tip-off, a police team conducted a sudden raid at Luxmipur village and arrested Ganjera Begum. The team recovered 10,000 liters of liquor-making ingredients and 15 liters of liquor from her possession. Afterwards, she was produced before a mobile court along with the seized goods. Executive Magistrate Dr Russel Sabrin sentenced her to two years jail. The court also passed an order for destroying the seized drugs items instantly.

6 doping gang members held

Detective Branch of police arrested six members of a gang in Bitakbazar area of Sagorika under Phartali police station yesterday. The six arrestees were identified as Pavel, Rubel, Shohag, Anwar, Ajmal and Joynal. DB police also recovered different types of sedatives and two knives from the arrestees. DB sources said that the gang was involved mugging in the different parts of the city. In the eve of Eid-ul-Azha they were gathering in Sagorika area of the city targeting on the Sagarika cattle market. DB sources also said that they were also accused in cases of mugging of different police stations in the city.
