Chittagong district police yesterday suspended an assistant sub-inspector and a constable on charge of neglecting duty letting a mugging accused flee custody while under treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital on Friday. The two policemen were Foyezur Rahman, assistant sub-inspector, and Faisal Ahmed, constable of the district police. AKM Hafiz Akhter, superintendent of police of Chittagong, singed the suspension order. Naimul Hasan, additional superintend of police (Special Branch) of the district, said due to negligence in duty the ASI and the constable were closed to Dampara police line on Friday night. Saturday the SP suspended the two policemen. Earlier, on Friday around 2:00pm a mugging accused named Sayed Alam,35, while undergoing treatment at ward no.28 of CMCH fled away dosing notice of the on-duty police members. Alam is a leader of a mugging gang. Alam, his wife Roksana Begum, 26, and his associate Abdul Gafur, 17, were beaten by a mob after they allegedly committed a mugging incident in Fatikchhari upazila of the district on Thursday. He was later admitted to CMCH in critical condition on the day.
