Dhaka University online application deadline extended till tomorrow

The time limit of online application process for admission into first year honour’s courses of Dhaka University (DU) under the 2018-19 academic session has been extended for two more days.

Now, the applicants can apply till 2 pm on August 28 (Tuesday), said a DU press release recently. Earlier, the deadline of the admission was open till 12 am yesterday.

The DU authorities extended the time limit considering the vacation for the holy Eid-ul-Azha. Meanwhile, the online application process began from 5:30 pm on July 31.

The admission tests will begin on September 14 with entry test of Business Studies faculty under “Ga (C)-Unit”.

The test of “Kha (B)-Unit” for admission into different disciplines under Arts and Social Sciences faculties will be held on September 21. “Ka (A)-Unit” admission test for science group students will be held on September 28 and “Gha (D)-Unit” (combined unit) tests on October 12.

 The admission seekers have been asked to visit the university website (http://admission.eis.du.ac.bd) for detailed information.

Ensuring leadership training for students stressed

RAJSHAHI: Ensuring leadership training for students and the youths in particular has become an urgent need for transforming them into worthy citizens, said speakers at a function in the city recently. They viewed role of youths as well as the students is very vital for creating mass-awareness together with forging a social resistance against extremism and militancy at higher educational institutions.

As a whole, the students should be groomed as social watchdog so that they can contribute to society and the nation positively. The observation came at the closing session of a two-day “youth leadership workshop for the members of students’ forum” in Postal Academy training room.

Centre for Communication and Development (CCD) organised the workshop in partnership with Democracy International Bangladesh and project for Engaging Youth People against Violent Extremism and Religious Militancy.

Some 38 talented students from Rajshahi College attended the programme which was organised with the main thrust of boosting peace, harmony and tolerance among the participating youths through enhancing their leadership and competence.

Partnership and Grant Manager of Democracy International Bangladesh Zahid Hassan, CCD Director Golam Mourtoza and its Joint Director Shahana Parveen, Project Coordinator Mehedi Hassan Tanveer and Facilitator Shamsunnahar addressed the session as resource persons.

Govt works sincerely for education

development, say speakers

RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a discussion here said the present government has been working sincerely for development of education aimed at boosting the country’s skilled human resources.

“The education sector has attained a significant success in the last two consecutive terms of the present government under dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” they added. Rajshahi Barendra Government College organised the discussion at its conference hall to mark launching its tree plantation programme recently.

General Secretary of Workers Party of Bangladesh Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the meeting as the chief guest with the college principal Prof Dr Muazzem Hossain in the chair. District Awami League general secretary Md Asaduzzaman, city unit general secretary of workers party Devashish Pramanik and general secretary of the college teachers’ council Hafizul Bari also spoke.

Badsha said the present government has taken different initiatives for making the country’s education sector dynamic as education is the backbone of a nation.

He, however, stressed the need for improving quality education both in rural and urban areas for overall development of the nation. The lawmaker said qualitative education can be the vital means of generating skilled human resources. All concerned including teachers and students should come forward to make the institution level teaching-learning process more effective, he also said. He urged the teachers to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to supplement the government endeavor of transforming the young generation to worthy citizen through education.
