Students demand proper investigation

The students and teachers of Agricultural University College formed a human chain at Shaheed Firoz-Jahangir Square on Bangladesh Agricultural University campus yesterday demanding proper investigation into the killing of a student of the college. They also demanded immediate arrest of the killers of Raisul Islam Russel, 17, a first year student of the college, and son of Abdur Rashid of Balipara in Trishal upazila.
Russel was found dead at a students’ boarding house in Kewatkhali area of Mymensingh town on September 14. Quoting Russel’s roommate Sajjatul Karim Swapnil, police said Russel did not go to the college and was alone in the room on the day of incident. When Swapnil along with other members of the boarding house returned at around 1:00 pm, they found the room locked from inside and the blood-stained body of Russel lying on the floor.
Students and teachers of the college alleged that Russel was murdered by criminals. The hour-long programme was addressed by Prof Bhaskar Sengupta, Prof Md Habibullah and victim’s father Abdur Rashid, among others. OC of Kotwali police station Kamrul Islam said they are investigating the incident.
