GAZIPUR: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said all the highways across the country will be turned into four-lane in phases, reports BSS. The minister said this after inaugurating newly-constructed bi-lane in Chandra area of Gazipur yesterday morning.
"Works for turning Alenga-Gazipur highway into four-lane will start by the end of this month and construction work of Joydebpur-Dhaka Rapid Transit Road and Metrorail Project will start in December," he said.
"Right now we have 1,752 kilometer highways and these will be turned into four-lane in phases, which will spare the citizens from the traffic congestion. This 500 meter-long bi-lane has been built at the cost of Tk 3.5 crore and I hope people of North-Bengal will be benefited a lot from it," Quader added.
The minister also reiterated his commitment to not allowing anyone to set up cattle market beside the highways.
Superintendent engineer of Roads and Highways Department Shahabuddin Ahmed, DIG of Dhaka Range Police ASM Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman, additional deputy commissioner of Gazipur Rahenul Islam were present on the occasion, among others.
