Bangladesh Under-23 national football team failed to capitalise their early second half lead and ultimately had to remain content with a 1-1- draw with Thailand in their second match against of the ongoing Asian Games yesterday at the Pakansari Stadium. Jakarta.
Mahbubur Rahman Shupil brought the lead in the 52nd minute for Bangladesh while Chaided Supachai scored the equalizer on 80th minute for Thailand.
Bangladesh, who made a lively start with playing pressing football and also produced two early chances to take clear lead but Shupil, who ultimately led the team squandered two easy opportunities when his both feeble efforts were halted by the goalkeeper.
The first chance came to Bangladesh’s way in the very eighth minute when Shupil got the ball possession from a Saad Uddin cross in an open space from a counter attack but the forward having the Thai goalkeeper one
on one situation took a very weak shot
and the keeper stopped the ball without any hesitation
After making the initial blunder Shupil should have done better but probably lack of confidence again he took a paltry right footer when another golden opportunity came to him, as the Thai keeper could not clear a cross of Biplu Ahmed on 37th minute.
This time Shupil, who played for Arambagh Krira Sangha last season in the domestic competitions, drew the attention of the selectors, made the same slip up when the ball just dropped on his legs after the keeper failed to clear the lofted ball from Biplu but Shupil's another fragile shot was gripped the by the keeper.
Playing with the technique of building up the game from their own half after dealing with the opponents attacks, Bangladesh threatened twice more to create chances and came to success inside seven minutes of the second half when Shupil finally came to success to convert his third chance into goal with pushing the ball into near post after a back header of Topu Barman on a Biswajit Ghosh came to his (Shupil) possession at the goal-mouth melee on 52nd minute (1-0).
Trailing by a goal, Thailand became more hostile to score goal and put Bangladesh into huge pressure, as this time Bangladesh also went to more defensive but failed to halt the Thailand as conceded the goal on 80th minute.
It looked that goalkeeper, Ashraful Islam Rana, who is so far the best performer for Bangladesh in the two matches, was a bit responsible along with his fellow defenders to concede the goal when he fist an effortless cross rather than to grip and the ball
went to unmarked Chaided Supachai possession who did not miss to score having the open net (1-1).
