Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s Midas touch was instrumental in Bangladesh’s dynamic turnaround which enabled them to create a history following the disastrous Test series in West Indies.

The lanky pacer’s influence was obvious as Bangladesh won the ODI series by 2-1 after being whitewashed in the two-match Test series. Many credited Tamim Iqbal’s two centuries that came in the winnings cause but the man himself yesterday acclaimed Mashrafe for the turnaround, saying his presence created a good vibe in the team after they were morally shattered.

"We couldn't play up to potential in the Test series," Tamim said. "Some are talking about the wicket and the type of ball, but we could have played better.”

"Mashrafe bhai made a very big contribution to our turnaround. He didn't bat or bowl for any of us but he changed the dressing room atmosphere, particularly after a bad Test series. He brought a positive vibe, which spread among all of us," he added.

Emboldened by the ODI series victory, Bangladesh later went on to register a 2-1 victory over West Indies in the T20 series, led by Shakib Al Hasan. The T20 series victory sprung a massive surprise, specially for their vulnerability and West Indies’s expertise in this format.

Like the ODI series, Tamim also led Bangladesh’s T20 revival, smacking a 44 ball-74 in the second match that leveled the series to give Bangladesh a confidence that they could even win the series. And that materialized also. The ODI series victory put a massive impact in T20 series also, believed Tamim.

“We wanted to seal the ODI series by winning first two matches since Guyana’s wicket was our-type wicket. Spin played big role here and the ground was also big. St. Kitts, the venue of the third match was West Indies like wicket. After losing the second match in Guyana, we sat together and Mashrafe bhai has big input. He said if we loss the game before the game, then there is no meaning to play the third match. So we were determined to come all guns blazing.”

Bangladesh later won the third match by 18 runs to seal the series, which was their first series victory outside Asia since 2009.

Tamim mulled his partnership with Shakib Al Hasan in the opening ODI helped turn Bangladesh's fortunes around as it helped them grow in confidence. The two senior batsmen added 207 for the second wicket that set up their side's 48-run win.

"The partnership with Shakib was important to see how we came back from the Test series. It was never easy to bat on that wicket, particularly after the Test series," he noted.

"We were playing a lot of dot balls and didn't panic. Batting long without looking at the scoreboard was key to doing well there. I think the partnership had a major impact in the series," he said adding he was amazed the way Shakib curbed his aggressive instincts to help in laying the platform for a big score.

"Shakib had to play differently because of the nature of the wicket. We had to be patient, and not look for boundaries in the first 30 overs," Tamim said.

The pressure was on Tamim and Shakib specially after Tamim’s opening partner Anamul Haque Bijoy failed to make a handy contribution. Not only Anamul, no one as of now could establish them as Tamim’s opening partner, causing a massive concern in the team management.

Tamim hoped that someone definitely could establish them as his opening partner before the World Cup given the potential they got.

He was also hopeful about Bangladesh’s good result in Asia Cup in UAE, particularly for his and some of Bangladeshi players knowledge about the wicket of the country due to their involvement in PSL.
