Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon finally quelled the uncertainly, insisting that Shakib Al Hasan would exclusively decide when the time is right to undergo operation for his injured little finger.

Upon his arrival from the West Indies and USA tour, where he played last two T20 matches, taking injection to resist the pain on his finger, the ace all-rounder said he wanted to have operation before the Asia Cup.

But the things became complicated when the BCB chief insisted that Shakib should undergo operation table after playing Asia Cup. That put a question mark on the time of his operation for the finger which was injured during the home series against Sri Lanka in January, forcing Shakib to miss some matches for Bangladesh.

“If he feels pain, he won’t be able to play. But if there is any opportunity to delay the operation, we hope that he would undergo operation before the Zimbabwe or West Indies series. The total thing is now depended on physio, doctor and Shakib himself,” Papon said yesterday.

“Before leaving the country to perform Hajj, Shakib called me over phone and asked what he should do (about the operation). I told him, if you feel you have pain and it would make adverse impact or aggravate the injury if you play, then it’s better to do the operation immediately,” Papon who also would leave country today to perform Hajj said, adding that, “I also said if you feel the operation is possible after the Asia Cup, then it will be better for the team. But the decision is totally on you.”

The president who came to the BCB office yesterday to attend the Doa  and Milad Mahefil for the late director and BPL chairman Afzalur Rahman Sinha also praised the work ethics of head coach Steve Rhodes.

The English-born coach impressed the BCB to watch the Bangladesh A team’s match in Ireland against the Irish second string team while he is on holiday. The thing is new for BCB specially when they were used to see that the previous coach Chandika Hathurusinga wouldn’t watch any game of Bangladesh’s age-level team.

“He has the enthusiasm. The most impressive thing is that he didn’t sit after the Bangladesh’s tour, he went to Ireland to watch the game. He will also have adequate holiday like previous coach, may be more than that but we want him during when we need him. In the past we saw we couldn’t get the coach when we need him. I can assure you that this will not happen this time.”

“The coach however wanted a 30-member preliminary squad for us to watch every players since he is new here and still doesn’t see many players. So as per the request of the coach we announced 30-member team.”

Nazmul Hassan Papon informed that they would take decision in the next meeting on appointing chairman of BPL and also would announce the time of election in his post that lie vacant after the death of Afzalur Rahman Sinha.
