NU publishes masters’ final result

The National University (NU) on Monday published the results of the final semester of the masters courses held in 2015, showing a 72.25 per cent pass rate. Some 166134 students from 144 colleges of 31 disciplines took part in the examinations. Among them 120031 students passed in the examination, said a press release issued by Vice-chancellor Prof Harun-or Rashid. The results are available on the NU website: www.nu.ac.bd / www.nubd.info. Students can also have their results by sending SMS to 16222 (NU<space>MF<space> Roll) from any mobile phone.

BHL plans to offer scholarships for students

Bangladesh Honda Private Limited (BHL), a concern of Honda Ltd of Japan, is planning to give the Young Engineers and Scientist’s (Y-E-S) Award to the undergraduate students for the first time in Bangladesh. BHL plans to introduce the award through Honda Foundation to encourage and support young engineers and scientists of the country. BHL has shown the interest at a meeting with UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan at UGC on Sunday.   A five-member delegation led by Professor Dr Atsushi Sunami, vice president, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Japan and executive director of Honda Foundation met the UGC chairman. Dr Atsushi said Honda Foundation will give the award to the undergraduate students in recognition of their outstanding academic performance. UGC has made the facilitator for fostering future leader in science and technology field. “The value of each scholarship will be US $3,000. It will also provide opportunity to earn graduate degree for the Y-E-S awardees in Japan,” he said.

Govt works sincerely for education dev

Rajshahi Barendra Government College organised the discussion at its conference hall to mark launching its tree plantation programme yesterday. General Secretary of Workers Party of Bangladesh Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the meeting as the chief guest with the college principal Prof Dr Muazzem Hossain in the chair. District Awami League general secretary Md Asaduzzaman, city unit general secretary of workers party Devashish Pramanik and general secretary of the college teachers’ council Hafizul Bari also spoke. Speakers at a discussion here said the present government has been working sincerely for development of education aimed at boosting the country’s skilled human resources. “The education sector has attained a significant success in the last two consecutive terms of the present government under dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” they added. Badsha said the present government has taken different initiatives for making the country’s education sector dynamic as education is the backbone of a nation. He, however, stressed the need for improving quality education both in rural and urban areas for overall development of the nation.
