The low that formed over the north-west Bay on Monday intensified into a well-marked one yesterday (Tuesday). It may become a monsoon depression in the same area or become a land depression sailing away overland towards India, such as the one last week, the Met Office said.
It may result in some rain, but not enough to wash away the heat and humidity, Hafizur Rahman, a meteorologist at the Dhaka Met Office, said yesterday.
As the low was intensifying into a depression, there was some rain in the capital in the early hours of Tuesday. Till 6am, it was measured by the met office at Agargaon as 02mm.
But Sylhet city recorded 20mm of rainfall at the same time. The highest, 45mm, was recorded by the met gauge at Nikli in the Haor areas of Kishoreganj. It was 32mm in Sayedpur in the north, but Rangpur nearby did not have a single drop.
