IU economics dept gets new chairman
KUSHTIA: Dr Abu Raihan, Professor of Economics department of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, has been appointed as the new chairman of the department on Saturday. IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari appointed Dr Abu Raihan to the post for the next three years, IU acting registrar SM Abdul Latif said. The newly appointed chairman said that he will work for the betterment of the department with the assistance of teachers and students of the university.
UGC chief seeks locals’ help to set up RMSTU’s permanent campus
Rangamati: Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC), Bangladesh Prof Abdul Mannan sought local people's help in establishing a permanent campus for Rangamati Science and Technology University (RMSTU). He came up with the urge while inaugurating a workshop after signing an agreement between UGC and RMSTU at a programme arranged at Rangamati Parjatan Holiday Complex. Mentioning that 64 acres land have been acquired for the project, he said the permanent campus will be built under a master plan of Tk 227crore this year. Already digital survey has been completed, said the UGC chairman. He said that the university has been established to give higher education facilities to the hill tracts residents. Vice Chancellor of RMSTU Dr. Pradanendu Bikas Chakma chaired the programme.
Seminar on improving rural lives held at NSU
A seminar on ‘Improving Rural Lives in Bangladesh: Present and Future’ jointly organized by the Monash University, Australia and North South University, Bangladesh at the seminar hall of NSU yesterday. State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak was the Chief Guest Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission, Julia Niblett, the Australian High Commissioner, MA Hashem, Chairman, BOT, NSU attended the seminar as special guests. Dr Asadul Islam, Monash University, Australia and Dr. Kanti Ananata Nuzhat, NSU Bangladesh presented one of papers on Understating the progress in Education in Bangladesh; Challenges and Contexts.
Prof Atiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor, NSU chaired the seminar. Among others MA Kashem, Member, BOT, NSU, Dr. Larry Stillman attended the seminar.
RU voluntary organisation distributes clothes
Rajshahi: A voluntary platform of Rajshahi University (RU) named ‘Equal Rights’ distributed new clothes among the distressed children and women on Friday. Around 50 underprivileged children and women from the university and its adjacent areas, including Binodpur and the railway station, received the clothes at a programmee held at the university’s Rabindra Bhaban.
President of the organisation Raj Kiron Das chaired the distribution ceremony while general secretary AnamikaSahaNupur moderated it. It is noted that, Equal Rights Organization launched its journey on the campus on July 20, 2018 with the slogan of ‘Sammer Sandhane Amra’.
