Rangpur city unit Jatiya Party and Jatiya Chhatra Samaj, a pro-Jatiya Party student organisation, blockaded Station Road at Zahaj Company inter-section yesterday afternoon demanding release of three Jatiya Chhatra Samaj activists who were arrested early yesterday.
Later, they lifted their blockade following the assurance from police, said Yasdir Ahamed, secretary of city unit Jatiya Party. He said following assurance from additional police super they withdrew the blockade. Yasir Ahamed said the three Jatiya Chhatra Samaj activists were arrested following scuffle with police over a road repairing work. At about 3 am when the repairing work of a road was going near Central Bus Terminal a speeding truck cross the road.
The Chhatra Samaj activists chased the truck and able to halt the vehicle near Rangpur Medical College intersection. Police official Abdul Hoque reached the spot and released the driver of the truck. Later, the law enforcers assaulted the Chhatra Samaj activists and brought them to Kotwali Police Station.
