Creating a new dimension in the arena of modern Bangla songs and playback songs, late popular singer Mahmudun Nabi (16 December 1936 – 20 December 1990) touched the hearts of countless Bangla-speaking audiences. Even today, his everlasting creations fascinate the audiences of all classes.

However, in memory of this iconic singer, Bengal Foundation has released an audio album titled ‘Amar Ganer Prante’ featuring some selected songs from Mahmudun Nabi’s numerous songs. Mahmudun Nabi’s two daughters, celebrated sibling singers Fahmida Nabi and Samina Chowdhury, have lent their vocals to the album comprising of 10 tracks.

Two sisters rendered five songs each, while they have sung two duet songs in the album.

Fahmida Nabi said about rendering her father’s songs, “This is a big responsibility to sing the songs of legendary singer Mahmudun Nabi, who is also my father. I admire Bengal Foundation’s initiative for paying respect to him. We two sisters present a few songs of our father to the audience. We couldn’t be able to sing like our father, we have just tried to do so.”

Samina Chowdhury said, “Though a tough job, this is full of love, very emotional and cherished matter to us. Please pray for us that we can sing our father’s song impeccably, and following his footstep, we can walk through the path of pure and accurate music.”

The album is available at different places in the capital, such as Surer Mela and Papyrus, Aziz Super Market; Pathak Samabesh, Shahbag; Geetanjali, Bashundhara Shopping Complex; Aranya Crafts, Banani and Dhanmondi; Begal Boi, Lalmatia and Sagor Publishers, Baily Road.

To note, singer Mahmudun Nabi was awarded the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for his performance in the film ‘The Rain’ (1976).
