Quader visits Satya Priya Mahathero at BSMMU

Awami League general secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader visited ailing Buddhist pundit Satya Priya Mahathero at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the capital

yesterday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will bear all treatment costs of Ekushey Padak recipient Satya Priya Mahathero, principal of the Ramu Central Bouddha Bihar, said the AL general secretary. Obaidul Quader talked to the physicians and inquired about the health condition of Satya Priya Mahathero.

Derailment snaps Sylhet’s rail link

Rail communications between Sylhet and the rest of the country snapped following the derailment of four bogies of the Surma Mail at Shibbari in Sylhet yesterday noon.

The accident took place while the train was entering the outer signal area of Sylhet Railway Station around 1:30 pm, said Station Officer Md Shajahan.

Meanwhile, Kushiyara Express from Akhaura was trapped near the station creating immense suffering to the commuters, he added. Authorities concerned have taken necessary steps to restore the rail communication, said the railway official.

Tk 10.17 lakh grant distributed

Cheques of Taka 10.17 lakh as education grants were distributed among 148 beneficiaries here for improving their living and livelihood condition on Tuesday, an official said yesterday.

On behalf of the ministry of education, district administration distributed the cheques among the beneficiaries including 139 distressed and physically challenged students, one teacher and eight educational institutions at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner.

Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Nasima Khatun) distributed the cheques.
