Legal actions against 76,871 vehicles in four days

Police has taken legal action against 18,322 vehicles and collected Tk 60 lakh as fines in separate drives against traffic rule violators across the country for the 4th consecutive day yesterday, reports UNB.

A total of 76,871 vehicles faced legal actions during the ongoing drives till Wednesday since Sunday, the day a special traffic week began.

Besides, legal action was also taken against 7,009 drivers for various charges including violation of traffic rules on Wednesday raising the number of rule-violating drivers to 22,398 in last four days, said Police Headquarters' AIG (Media) Sohel Rana.

A total of 500 vehicles were also detained as part of legal action on Wednesday, while total number rose to 2,370 during the 4-day drive. The drive will continue till August 11.

The Special Traffic Week began across the country from Sunday to reinforce discipline on roads and highways amid the growing student movement over a nine-point demand, mainly for road safety.

During the Special Traffic Week, legal steps have been taken against unfit vehicles, drivers without licenses and violation of traffic rules and against pedestrians who do not follow traffic rules.
