Chittagong Port Authority will purchase four more quay gantry cranes at a cost of Tk 238.61 crore from China for smooth handling of containers.
The Chinese company Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company Limited will supply the cranes. The capacity of each of the cranes is 40 tonnes.
Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Commodore Commodore Zulfikar Aziz and senior vice president of Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company Limited of China Liu Qizhong signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations in presence of shipping minister Shajahan Khan at the secretariat yesterday.
It will help speedy loading and unloading of containers, Shajahan Khan told reporters after the signing ceremony.
“We have already collected 277 container handling equipments. Two stage gates have already been installed for scanning trucks and trailers,” he said.
