Man arrested with 15kg gold at Ctg airport

Customs officials detained a man along with 115 gold bars weighing 15 kg from Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattaogram yesterday morning. The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Jahed, a resident of Hathazari upazila. He arrived here by a flight of US-Bangla Airlines from Muscat. Sarwar-e-Jaman, manager of the airport, said on information, a team of customs officials challenged the man and recovered the gold from his possession worth TK 6 crore.

Man commits ‘suicide’

A young man committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at Tulshipur Chakpara village in Rajshahi on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Manik Hossain, 35, son of Akbar Hossain hailing from Sultanpur village of the upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Bagha Police Station Rejaul Hasan said Manik had been residing at a rented house with his wife in the city. On Friday night, he left the house after a brawl with his wife and went to his native village.

At dead of night, Manik hanged himself with his towel at a mango orchard in the village. In the morning, locals spotted the body and informed police. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy, added the OC. A case was filed in this regard.

Programmes on Mourning Day in Rangpur

The district administration at a preparatory meeting recently chalked out programmes to observe the National Mourning Day-2018 and 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Architect of Independence and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib presided over the meeting held at his conference room with participation of officials of law enforcement agencies, freedom fighters, heads of government departments and educational institutions, politicians and civil society members. Acting President of district Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, District Muktijoddha Commander Mosaddek Hossain Bablu, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rabiul Islam, Deputy Director (Local Government) Ruhul Amin Mian, Additional Police Super Abu Maruf Hasan, among others, addressed.
