AFP, DUBLIN: Brazil goalkeeper Alisson kept a clean sheet Saturday on his Liverpool debut in a 5-0 demolition of Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli in Dublin.
James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum both scored inside the opening 10 minutes at the Aviva Stadium in Liverpool’s penultimate pre-season friendly.
Liverpool lost Milner to a clash of heads with Napoli defender Mario Rui early in the second half in an incident that left the former England international needing 15 stitches.
Mohamed Salah, who hit 32 Premier League goals last term -- a record for a 38-game season, added a third for Jurgen Klopp’s men just before the hour.
Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno rounded out the scoring as Alisson, who joined from Roma in a deal worth up to £67 million ($88 million, 75 million euros) last month, was relatively untested.
Daniel Sturridge wasted a good chance to get in on the act but soon made amends, smashing home a rebound with 73 minutes on the clock.
And Alberto Moreno wrapped things up a few moments later, beating Karnezis at his near post with a rasping 20-yard drive.
A productive evening for the Reds was only soured by an unfortunate injury suffered by Milner, with the versatile midfielder left requiring 15 stitches following a clash of heads with Mario Rui.
Klopp told the club’s official website afterwards: ”I knew that he would get stitches because we saw it on the pitch. He’s in the dressing room so I have to see him first before I can say more.
“That’s obviously the big shadow over that game.”
He added to reporters: ”James Milner played a brilliant game before going off with a crazy cut.
“He’s had a lot of stitches, 15, and you don’t want that in that position in your face. But then he is quite positive about it, but probably nobody showed him the mirror so far!
“Hopefully it will be good and that’s very important. It’s not about celebrating the moment, it’s about working for the big moments.”
Liverpool conclude their pre-season at home to Torino on Tuesday before launching their Premier League campaign on August 12 against West Ham.
