Dhaka: Two people, including a woman, were awarded death sentence and another was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment yesterday in separate murder cases in Chapainawabganj and Joypurhat, reports UNB.
In Chapainawabganj, a woman was sentenced to death and another to three years’ imprisonment for killing two minor girls—Maliha, daughter of Abdul Malek of Fatepur area in Chapainawabganj municipality, and Sumaiya Akhter, daughter of Milon Rana of same area, in 2017.
The condemned convict was identified as Lucky Khatun, wife of Ibrahim Ali of the area while Mizanur Rahman was awarded three years in the case.
Additional District and Session’s Court Judge Shawkat Ali passed the verdict.
According to the prosecution, the victims went missing on February 12, 2017 while they were playing near their houses after rerunning from their school. Their bodies were found beneath a cot at Lucky’s house two days later.
Lucky confessed that she killed the schoolgirls for their gold jewellery.
In Joypurhat, a man was awarded death penalty for killing his wife for dowry in 2005 at Mandalpara village in Sadar upazila.
