Sharif Sadhu to perform Lalon songs at Nat’l Museum today

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre is organising an evening of Lalon Sangeet by Md Shariful Islam (Sharif Sadhu) today at 6.30pm at the Kobi Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum, Shahbagh in the capital.

 In 1990 Md Shariful Islam (Sharif Sadhu) started learning singing for the first time  under the guidance of his village Guru MA Hanjala and Abdul Malik Sarkar. After that he started training under Ustad Paresh Chowdhury on classical music under Pubna Sangeet Academy ‘IFA’. In this way he got introduced to both Boul and Classical music.

 For higher studies in music Sharif got admission in ‘Dhaka Sangeet Maha vidyalaya’ on I - music course.

Other than, he had earned reputation by playing musical instrument ‘Dotara’ in the background music of famous movie of Bangladesh ‘Monpura’. Moreover, he had played ‘Dotara’ in background music and also performed 4 folk dramatic action melodies in Movie ‘Opekkha’ directed by the famous director Abu Sayeed.

At present,  he is taking training and doing his research  under eminent Lalon music personality Abdul Mannan to preserve the rich heritage of almost disappearing Boul music. He got the title of Sharif Sadhu by Abdul Mannan.
