Man to die for killing wife
Netrokona: A court here on Thursday awarded death sentence to a man as he killed his wife over a family feud at Sukhari Dakkinpara villageof Atpara upazila in the district in 2017, reports UNB.
The court also fined him tk. 20,000.
The convict was identified as Jamal Uddin Sarker, 45, son of late Esar Uddin Sarkerof Sukhari Dakkinpara village of Atpara upazila in the district.
According to case statement, Jamal strangulated his wife Ruma Akter 33 daughter of Abdul Aziz, to death over a family feud on November 28 of 2017 and on the next day surrendered to the police.
Body recovered in Manikganj

Police recovered the body of a young girl from Sarup Pur area in Singair upazila of Manikganj district yesterday.
Identity of the ill-fated girl could not be known immediately. She was about 20-25 years old.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Singair Police Station Khandaker Imam Hossain said local people found the burnt body beside a village road in the morning and informed police. Police rushed to the spot at about 9am and recovered the body.
After killing the girl in other place criminals might have dumped the body at the spot, the OC suspected.
After the murder, miscreants tried to burn the body to conceal the identity of the deceased.
The reason behind the killing was yet to be ascertained. However, previous enmity might be the reason.
Replying to a query, the officer said he has found some important clues, but he would not disclose any details for the sake of investigation. The body was sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital Morgue for autopsy. A case was lodged with Singair Police Station in this connection, said Anwar Hossain, SI of the police station.
New VC of Sheikh Hasina varsity welcomed in Netrakona
NETRAKONA: Local people from all walks of life here yesterday formally welcomed the newly-appointed vice chancellor (VC) of Sheikh Hasina University Professor Dr. Rafiq Ullah Khan, reports BSS.
The cross section of people including public representatives, political leaders, teachers, students and civil society members welcomed the VC in a meeting on “development affairs”. Dr. Khan, who arrived here today and attended the meeting as the special guest, was appointed as VC of the university by President M Abdul Hamid Khan on July 25 last.
Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy and Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Sajjadul Hasan addressed the meeting as the chief and the guest of honor respectively, while Deputy Commissioner of Netrakona Main-Ul-Islam was in the chair.
It was addressed, among others, by chairman of Netrakona Zila Parishad Prasanta Kumar Roy, police super Netrakona Joydeb Chowdhory, president of Awami League (AL) Netrakona district unit Motiur Rahman Khan, general secretary of AL Netrakona district unit Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, mayor of Netrakona pourasava Nazrul Islam Khan.
The speakers thanked and expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for giving approval to establish the public university in Netrakona and appointing Dr. Khan as the vice chancellor of the university.
Housewife ‘commits’ suicide
Sylhet: A housewife allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house at Jangalbari in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Rahima Khatun, 36, wife of Razzak Ali of the village. Nandan Kanti Dhar, officer-in-charge of Tahirpur Police Station, said Rahima, mother of five children, hanged herself from the ceiling of the house when she was alone in the house.
