DU online admission process begins

The online process of admissions into the first year honours courses of Dhaka University (DU) under 2018-2019 academic session began on Tuesday and continue till August 26.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the online admission process at a function at the central admission office of the university in the evening.

The admission test for Kha (B) unit will be held on September 21 while that of 'Ga' (C) unit on September 14, 'Ka' (A) unit on September 28 and 'Gha' (D) unit on October 12.

The general knowledge part of the admission test for 'Cha' unit (Faculty of Fine Arts) will be held on September 15 and the drawing part on September 22.

This year, a total of 7,128 seats are available -- 1,750 under 'Ka' (Science) unit, 2,378 under 'Kha' (Arts) unit, 1,250 under 'Ga' (Business) unit, 1,615 under 'Gha' (combined) unit and 135 under the Fine Arts faculty. Students have been asked to visit http://admission.eis.du.ac.bd for details about the admissions.

Notre Dame Annual Science Fest begins tomorrow

Notre Dame Science Club (NDSC) is going to organise its prestigious science venture ‘Notre Dame Annual Science Festival 2018 & 28th GKC’ on the college premises in the capital on Saturday, says a press release.

Every year NDSC comes with some new and exciting scientific events for the students all over the Bangladesh. This year the event will take place on August 4, 5, 9, 10 & 11 on the college premises. The festival featured a wide variety of events, ranging from science olympiads to wall magazine and robot show-casing. Around 6000 students from more than 300 institutions across the country will join the biggest science venture of Bangladesh. Notre Dame Science Club authority will also arrange some workshops, documentary and scientific movie shows to inspire the scientific conscience and to develop inner excellency in the innovative minds of the participants.

Prof Rafiqul Islam joins as new RUET VC

RAJSHAHI: Prof Dr Rafiqul Islam Sheikh of Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) has joined as its new Vice-chancellor (VC) on Tuesday.

Earlier, President M Abdul Hamid appointed Prof Rafiqul Islam to the VC post for four years. In this regard, RUET office received a circular signed by Syed Ali Reza, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Education, on Monday noon.

After receiving the circular Prof Islam took his office on Tuesday afternoon. Registrar Prof Mosharraf Hossain, was present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion VC Prof Islam sought cooperation of all quarters to run the university peacefully and successfully.

EWU student gets Prime Minister Gold Medal

East West University’s (EWU) student Afifa Binta Saifuddin received the prestigious, Prime Minister Gold Medal for her outstanding academic results by the University Grants Commission (UGC) Bangladesh.

Afifa completed her graduation from the Department of Pharmacy in 2017. She achieved a CGPA 3.99 out of 4.00. She also attained the Gold Medal in the last convocation of East West University this year.  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed handed over the gold medal at a simple ceremony on July 25 at PM Office. On the occasion, 163 students of public and private universities of the country were all awarded gold medals. The Chairperson of the Board of Trustee, East West University, Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, and Vice-Chancellor Prof MM Shahidul Hassan congratulated Afifa for receiving the prestigious gold medal.
