In two fatal incidents, at least nine people were electrocuted at Kadai village in Sadar upazila of Sirajganj and Naogaon yesterday, reports UNB. The deceased were identified as Abdullah, 13, a class VII student and son of Abu Taher, Rafiqul Islam, 30, son of Habibur Rahman, Momin, 30, son of Kashem Ali, Sajib, 13, a class VII student and son of Abdul Alim, Abdus Sattar, 50, Reaz, 14, a class VIII student and son of Aminul Islam, Anwar
Hossain, 35, son of Amin and Habib, 25, son of Abul Hossain of the village. The incident took place around 12:30 pm when nine people came in contact of a live wire while shifting a makeshift shop, leaving them injured, said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station.
They were taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared eight of them dead, said Dr Faridul Islam, a resident medical officer of the hospital.
The injured was being treated at the hospital, he added.
Meanwhile, a police constable was electrocuted at Nichkakra village in Gabtali upazila of Naogaon yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Constable Meherul Islam, 32, son of Habibur Rahman of the village. He was performing his duties at Raninagar Police Station.
Limon Roy, additional superintendent of Naogaon circle, said Meherul electrocuted while he was trying to hang a cloth
with live GI wire, leaving him dead on the spot around 9:30 am.
Later, locals took him to upazila health complex where the duty doctor declared him dead, the official added.
