“I am passionate about my work”

Nazir Hossain reveals more about Chaity and her work in
an exclusive interview with DhakaLive.

Gold medal winner in the wedding make-up category at the Global Beauty Expo 2017 in Korea, Farhana Chaity, a housewife-turned-make-up artist, is immensely optimistic about establishing herself at home as well as abroad.

After earning her diploma in Beauty Make-up from the MBC Beauty Academy in Seoul, Korea, Chaity completed her advance hair-styling course from the Hair Zone Studio of Michael Poh in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Alongside working on different projects in the country, she worked as a make-up artist and hair-stylist with a number of prominent organisations in abroad, including Astro TV and Feminine Magazine in Malaysia.

After completing master’s degree from the University of Dhaka, Chaity started her early career in a multinational bank in the country and continued her job for two years before quitting in 2007.

Chaity now wants the name of Bangladesh to shine abroad with her remarkable works.

How do you define yourself?

I prefer to define myself as a make-up artist and hair-stylist, who believes that in her hands each woman is a masterpiece.

When did you take this profession seriously?

After my husband, who is working in British American Tobacco, was posted in Korea from Bangladesh in 2015, I, being an idle housewife, thought to do some professional courses.

I had always wanted to become a make-up artist. To realise my dream, I completed a one-year diploma degree in Beauty Make-up from the MBC Beauty Academy in Seoul, Korea, in 2016. I learned several types of make-up, including stage make-up, wedding make-up and seasonal make-up there.

After completing this course, my teacher thought I could go for a competition. I participated in the Global Beauty Expo 2017 in Korea and won the gold medal in the wedding make-up category.

How and when did you meet the famous Michael Poh?

After staying in Korea, my husband was posted in Kuala Lumpur. At that time, I intended to learn the whole thing about make-up and completed my advance hair-styling course from the Hair Zone Studio of Michael Poh in Kuala Lumpur. As a matter of fact, the customers need to avail hairstyle service, along with their beauty make-up. So, I got ready with the complete package of beauty make-up and hairstyle.

Tell us about a few of your achievements.

I won the gold medal at the Global Beauty Expo 2017 in Korea. I worked for the Feminine Magazine and Astro TV in Malaysia.

What are your recent works?

Recently, I worked for the fashion show on the eve of Cotton Day at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden. I conducted a daylong workshop on ‘Advanced Make-up’ arranged by Ujjwala. Also, a leading English Daily published tips on  summer look given by me in their lifestyle magazine in July.

Who are the people to inspire you throughout your career?

The person whose name will come first is my husband. My parents, my two daughters and obviously my teachers and friends have always inspired me to keep up the good works.

Whom do you follow for make-up and hairstyle?

Nowadays, I follow Anastasia Beverly Hills for make-up. For hairstyle, definitely my teacher Michael Poh.

What is your future plan?

As I told you, my husband has to keep moving from one country to another due to his profession. I will continue my job seriously and do my best wherever I will be in the coming years. I am passionate about my work—I am in love with fashion and style. I will do my job according to the opportunities. I want to establish my own beauty studio in future. Even if I would be asked for working in any project in the country, I will be right there.
