Today is the birthday of internationally-acclaimed Bangladeshi film actress Babita. The iconic actress, who won the prestigious National Film Award so many times in her career, has been awarded with the lifetime achievement award of National Film Award this year.
To celebrate her birthday and share the joy of recent achievement with her only son Anik, Babita is now in Toronto, Canada.
Though Babita is very delighted for being with her son on birthday, she will intensely miss her countless fans and well-wishers, viewers, relatives and entire family staying back in the country. She will miss her two sisters, Suchanda and Champa—two popular actresses of the country’s film industry—on her birthday today.
Moreover, Babita will also miss the children of DCII (Distress Children Infant International), who, for the past few years, wished the actress exceptionally on her birthday and celebrated the occasion by performing song and dance. The actress is working as a goodwill ambassador for the organization.
Babita shared her feelings about birthday over the phone from Canada, “From the first hours of my birthday, I start receiving wishes from numerous known and unknown fans and well-wishers. It really feels amazing. At the same time, it makes me sad when I realise one more year has passed from life so quickly.”
“This is a matter of joy for me that I am celebrating my birthday with Anik this year. However, my son said there is a surprise waiting for me. I really know nothing about it. This is true that I miss my country and its people every moment. All I want is blessing from everyone,” the actress added further.
Babita informed that before returning to Bangladesh at the end of October, she will be visiting USA for 10-12 days to spend quality time with her two brothers.
Babita-starrer notable films includes ‘Shukhe Thako’, ‘Taka Anna Pai’, ‘Shorolipi’, ‘Manusher Mon’, ‘Pich Dhala Path’, ‘Noyon Moni’, ‘Jonmo Theke Jolchi’ and ‘Anarkoli’.
Her acting also gained the attention of the Indian director Satyajit Ray. In 1973, Ray cast Bobita in ‘Ashani Sanket’ (Distant Thunder).
Babita acted in a number of joint-venture movie projects in her career, such as Canada Bollywood-Bangladesh joint production ‘Door Desh’ in 1983 (Gehri Chot - Urf: Durdesh in Hindi) opposite actor Nadeem Baig and also Pakistan-Bangladesh joint venture film ‘Miss Lanka’ (Nadaani in Urdu) in 1985.
She also acted in ‘Arunodoyer Agnishakkhi’ (1972) by Subhash Dutta, ‘Quiet Flows the River Meghna’ (1973) by Alamgir Kabir, ‘Golapi Ekhon Trainey’ (1978) by Amjad Hossain, ‘Dahan’ (1986) by Sheikh Niamat Ali, and ‘Dipu Number Two’ (1996) by Morshedul Islam.
