Stocks extend loss to open week as major sectors dip

Stock markets extended loss to open the week downtrend on Sunday as major sectors closed lower while daily transactions were also declining, reports BSS.

The falling major sectors were food and allied, financial institutions, IT sector and fuel and power. A total of 271 securities of the large-cap group incurred loss due to lower activities.

The broader index DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the day with 25.10 points down at 5,280.07. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 11.09 points down at 1,248.69 and with 11.75 points down at 1,878.76 respectively.

The daily turnover in value at DSE decreased to Tk 577.34 crore from the previous session (Thursday) Tk 855.62 crore and the volume trading shares declined to 13.99 crore from the previous one 21.61 crore.

Among the traded 336 issues at DSE, 103 closed lower against 197 gaining issues.

The top five gaining companies were Popular Life, Legacy Foot, KDSALTD, Queen South and Monno Ceramics. The major losers were Meghna Pet, MIDASFIN, MEGCONMILK, Interco and ITC.

BBS Cables topped the turnover list, followed by Ifad Autos, Fortune, KDSALTD and Square Pharma.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also opened the week down, with its major CASPI index closing ended over 107.55 points down at 16,265.70.

At the CSE, 240 issues were traded. Of those, 63 closed higher and 154 closed lower when 9.30 crore shares worth Tk 28.71 crore changed hands.
