Monsoon intensifies in southeast, slows in Dhaka

As the monsoon raliied itself hard to the south-east, Teknaf, the tip of Bangladesh in that direction, continues to be battered by showers. It recorded the highest rainfall of 317mm till 6am yesterday.  On Thursday, Teknaf experienced 315mm of rain that left its  residents, especially the 1.2 million Rohingyas living under the hill slopes, apprehensive about landslides.

Sandwip recorded the second highest rainfall with 99mm. As the rains shifted northwards, 58mm was recorded in Netrokona, 40mm in Mymensingh and 24mm in Sylhet.

Met Office sources said showers were likely over most places in Rangpur, Sylhet, Mymensingh,Barishal and Chattogram. Besides, heavy rains were expected in many places of Rajshahi, Dhaka and Khulna divisions in the next 24hrs beginning from 6pm yesterday. There could be moderately heavy to very heavy falls over Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions as well.
