JU admin building besieged again

A faction of pro-Awami League teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday besieged two administrative buildings on the campus for the second consecutive day to press home their five-point demand including dean appointment of law faculty.

Under the banner of Bangabandhur Adarsha O Muktijuddher Chetonay Biswashi Pragatishil Shikkhak Samaj, around 30 teachers took position in front of the old administrative building locking up the main entrance and they also locked the new administrative building.

The agitated teachers alleged that recently the Vice chancellor Professor Farzana Islam had appointed deans of law faculty and head of the provost committee without any election that is clearly violation of the act.

Meanwhile, the protesters have announced a blockade programme for today and to resist the orientation programme for the first year students of the university. Spokesperson of the protesters group Tareq Reza said, “JU VC Professor Farzana Islam is continuously violating university rules. To protest her irregularities, we have decided to resist the orientation programme”.

“To resist the programme, we will besiege VC office, two administrative buildings and Zahir Raihan Auditorium today”, he added.
