‘Meghmallar’ to be premiered at TIFF today

The world premiere of ‘Meghmallar’, a full-length feature film based on the short story ‘Raincoat’ by legendary writer Akhtaruzzaman Elias’, will be held in the 40th phase of ‘Toronto International Film Festival’ (TIFF) in Canada today. The film has been nominated in a ten-day festival for the category of ‘Discovery’, which begun on September 10 and continue till September 20. On the other hand, two other public screenings of the film will be held on September 17 and 20.
Directed by Zahidur Rahim Anjan, the plot of the film is about the conventional portrayal of the Liberation War, and it goes back to August 1971. It is unusually rainy. Nurul Huda, alias Noor, is a chemistry teacher in a government college. He lives in a small district town with his wife, Asma, and his four-year old daughter, Sudha. Noor’s brother-in-law, Mintu, used to live with them. Recently, he has left to join the Liberation War. Noor and his loved ones continue to live their regular middle class lives in the backdrop of this frightening war. Like other teachers in the college, Noor has to continue conducting classes. He keeps his views agreeable with his Pakistani minded colleagues, but he yearns for the liberation of Bangladesh in his heart.
The key cast of the film includes the National Film Award winner Shahiduzzaman Selim, Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Zara, Aminur Rahman Mukul, Mosharraf Karim, Aparna and Aditi. Aparna plays the role of female protagonist named Asma in the film.
The 92 minute-long film based on the Liberation War, directed by Zahidur Rahim Anjan, had won the National Filmmaking Grant in 2013.  The film, produced jointly by Bangladesh Government and Bengal Entertainment Limited, was released on December 12 last year. l
