Five councillor candidates of Barishal City Corporation elections were fined for violating electoral code of conduct during campaigns. Besides, Election Commission issued a show cause notice to Dr Vaskar Saha, principle of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SBMC) and Dr Bakir Hossain, director of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for holding meeting with Awami League’s mayoral candidate Serniyabat Sadiq Abdullah.  Helal Uddin Khan, assistant returning officer of Barishal City Corporation  election, said use of influence or favour from government officials is violation of the election code. Meanwhile, both the officials took part in the election campaign for Serniyabat Sadiq at SBMC auditorium on July 18.

At the same time Election Commission issued a show cause notice to Islami Andolan Bangladesh mayoral candidate Maolana Obaidur Rahman for using religious sentiment in electoral campaign.

Candidates of Barisal City Corporation polls are campaigning in full swing, braving bad weather to reach voters. Central leaders of different parties along with local leaders are also participating in these campaigns. Newly elected mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Jahangir Alam took part in the campaign for Awami League’s mayoral candidate Serniyabat Sadiq Abdullah yesterday afternoon on Sadar Road area.
