MEHERPUR: A former army personnel was killed by unknown assailants on Sunday night at Ujalpur village in sadar upazila. Police recovered his body yesterday morning. The victim was identified as Habibur Rahman, 48, a resident of the village. Laily Begum, wife of the victim, said her husband left home on Sunday afternoon to join Janaja prayers of one of his relatives at nearby Kutubpur village, but he did not return home.  Police recovered the body hanging from a tree in a mango orchard in nearby Kutubpur union yesterday morning. Police suspected that he might have been strangled to death. Police said the motive behind the killing could not be ascertained immediately.
