PM warns BCL for excesses over quota reform issue: Quader

Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday said members of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling party, were warned for their excesses in suppressing the quota reformists. “The Prime Minister has already told BCL activists to not cross their limits over the quota reform issue,” he added. Quader, who is also the minister for road transport and bridges, was talking to reporters at his Secretariat office in the afternoon.

He said the Premier told BCL activists that she had already received several complaints against them and would not like to hear further allegations in this regard.

About the formation of an election-time government, Quader told the reporters that such a government would be formed in October and the size of the Cabinet would be small. There would be room for unelected persons in the Cabinet, he added.

The AL leader said there was no need for a dialogue with the BNP before the next general polls. The next elections would not be held on the basis of any party’s condition. The polls would be conducted on time following the constitutional guidelines, he added. He also apprehended that the BNP might create anarchy in the country before the polls. “I think it won’t succeed in doing so. With the help of common people, we’ll resist their conspiracy,” he added.

Replying to another question over preventing the BNP from holding meetings and rallies, Quader said different political parties were being given permission and the same would be applied to the BNP.On the July 30 civic polls in Barishal, Rajshahi and Sylhet, the AL leader said they had already directed all AL leaders and activists not to violate the electoral code of conduct during the poll campaign of the party-nominated candidates in the three cities.
