Youth’s throat-slit body found
Khulna: Police recovered the throat-slit body of a young man from a house at Boyra Afzal intersection area in the city early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Farhad Hossain Sheikh alias Apon, 32, a staff of Sheikh Abu Naser Special Hospital and son of Abdus Samad of Jugihati village in Rupsha upazila. Abul Khayer, officer-in-charge of Khalishpur Police Station, said Apon used to live at a rented house alone at Afzal intersection.
As Apon's phone was found switched off for a long time his relatives informed police. Later, police went to the rented house of Apon around 12:30 am and recovered the throat-slit body.
Miscreants killed Apon and left the place after locking the door from outside. Police also recovered a knife from the house. The body was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
6 journos awarded for reporting on violence against women
Women Journalists Network, Bangladesh (WJNB) and Nari Unnayan Shakti (NUS) have awarded six journalists for their reports on violence against women and girls.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki distributed the awards at a ceremony at the Jatiya Press Club on Thursday, said a press release.
Wazed Hera of the Dainik Janakantha, Yasmin Reema of the New Age and Rita Bhowmick of the Dainik Jugantor won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd award respectively in the print media category while Farzana Shova of SA TV, Shatila Sarmin of Somoy TV and Sheikh Humayun Kabir Surjo of News24 in the electronic media category.
Dr Afroza Parvin, executive director of Nari Unnayan Shakti, delivered the welcome speech at the awards ceremony moderated by Angur Nahar Monty, WJNB general secretary.
BSS Editor-in-Chief Abul Kalam Azad and Jatiya Press Club General Secretary Farida Yasmin were also present.
2 held with 4,000 yaba tablets
Khulna: Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested two alleged drug traders along with 4,000 Yaba pills from Harintana area of the city yesterday.
The arrestees were identified as Rafiqul Islam and Mosharraf Hossain of the area. On secret information, a team of the elite force conducted a drive at the shrimp enclosure of Rafique around 10:30am and arrested them along with the contraband tablets, said Rab-6 Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Bazlur Rashid.
