Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief executive officer (CEO) Nizamuddin Chowdhury hints on Wednesday that a new soul will join the team’s coaching fleet as batting consultant within the next few days prior to the onset of the one-day international series against hosts West Indies.
The three-match ODI series is scheduled to begin after shocking Test series in Guyana on July 22.
“We hope that a batting consultant will soon join the national team in West Indies,” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
“Almost everything has been settled. If everything is okay, he will join the team within July 22 just before the start of the ODI series against the hosts West Indies,” Chowdhury told reporters at his Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) office in Mirpur yesterday.
“At this moment, I could not tell you in which venue he will join the team. But the contract we signed with him we did it keeping the 2019 World Cup under consideration,” he added.
BCB earlier appointed South African Ryan Cook as the fielding coach on the stroke of the ongoing West Indies tour that has been opened with Test. South African coach meanwhile joined the team and worked with the players ahead of their important one-day series.
Before flying to the West Indies tour, the board appointed English coach Steve Rhodes as the head coach for the Bangladesh team after an eight-month hiatus what was remained vacant following the abrupt-resignation of Chandika Hathurusingha.
When asked him to tell the name of the batting consultant, Nizamuddin did not spell his name in an excuse of the contract and said: “There are many more things in a contract. We could be informed when we would be finalized the entire thing.”
The CEO however said that they will soon finalise the schedule and itinerary of our next home series against Zimbabwe, the series which brought ahead from January, 2019 to October, 2018 owing to Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
“The series will be finalized very soon. Cricket Operations of both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe Cricket Board are in final stage. May be it’ll be fixed within the next one-two days,” he revealed.
The CEO said that they will soon appoint some supporting staffs after Naveed Nawaz for Bangladesh U-19 Team keeping their 2020 World Cup (South Africa) in mind.
“We’ve appointed Sri Lanka Naveed Nawaz for our Under-19 team. It’s been appointed keeping the next World Cup in mind. The road map we prepared he will work for the team accordingly,” he said of Naveed.
“The next U-19 World Cup will be played in South Africa in 2020. We’ve planned in that way,” he continued.
“We’ve planning to appoint some supporting staffs beside Naveed Nawaz. In that case, strength and conditioning coach might be appointed for them,” he added.
Chowdhury informed said that they’ve confirmed a couple of (home and away) series for their U-19 team against Sri Lanka and England. Along with that, they are trying to arrange more games and bilateral series for both U-19 and Women’s prior to their respectively World Cup.
“We have confirmed some tours for our youth. In this case, four to five home and away series has already been arranged as a part of preparation for their World Cup,” he said.
“Even we consider arranging some practice matches or any additional bi or tri-series during the conditioning camp in Zimbabwe prior to the World Cup,” he told.
“Even we are talking with West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to organize some practice match against West Indies and other suitable opponents before the November Women’s World Cup,” he said, before signing off.
