Bangladesh women qualify for World T20 beating Scotland

Bangladesh women's cricket team yesterday qualified for women’s World T20 for the third time in a row, beating Scotland by 49 runs to confirm berth in the final of qualifying tournament at the VRA Cricket Ground in Amstelveen of the Netherlands.

A victory in the final against Ireland on Saturday will mean a reversal of the result of the 2015 edition, where Bangladesh finished second behind the old rivals.

Bangladesh's entry into the World T20 comes on the back of a maiden Asia-Cup title-winning campaign in June, where they stunned heavyweights India twice.

Batting first, Bangladesh amassed 125 runs losing 6 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Nigar Sultana’s 31 from 36 balls was the highest score for the side.

In reply, the Bangladesh women restricted their Scottish opponents 76 in 20 overs grabbing seven of their scalps. Nahida Akter and Rumana Ahmed grabbed 2 wickets each while Salma and Fahima shared two between them.

Bangladesh won all their three group matches, not allowing a single opponent to go past 100. They restricted Papua New Guinea to 84 for six, before skittling out the Netherlands and UAE for 42 and 39 respectively.
