Five activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Chittagong University (CU) unit were arrested yesterday from Suhrawardi Hall while allegedly taking cannabis.
They were identified as Rabiul Islam Apel, a student of economics department, academic session 2015-2016, Sumon Tripura, a student of institute of education and research, academic session 2014-2015, Mainuddin Amanullah, a student of Persian department, academic session 2014-2015 and Abdullah Al Tamzid and Imamul Hasan Khan, students of Bangla department, academic session 2014-2015. They were known as activists of CU BCL abolished committee.
According the sources, the proctorial body found cannabis along with the accused during their regular visit to room no-151 of Suhrawardi Hall at around 1:30pm.
CU assistant proctor Liton Mitro said, “We detained five students of different departments while taking cannabis from their respective room. We will take step academically against them.”
"The university authorities have handed over the five students to the Hathazari Police station.
We will take legal action after interrogation,” said Belal Uddin Jahangir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hathazari Police station.
