Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) conducted a drive in the capital's Uttara Club and seized huge quantity of foreign liquor and beer of various brands worth around Tk 5 crore on Monday, reports UNB. CIID Director General (DG) Dr Md. Shahidul Islam said the drive was conducted based on secret information that the Uttara Club has been selling foreign liquor and beer of various brands, including wine, whisky, vodka and beer illegally after importing those items using tax free facilities for a long time.
Based on the information, a special team comprising CIID team and members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Ansar took position on Uttara Club at around 2:00 pm, the CIID DG said.
As the club authority denied to cooperate the special CIId team, it entered inside the club breaking locks at around 5pm and seized 3045 bottles of foreign liquor of various brands and 2500 cans of beer, Dr Shahidul Islam said.
