In yet another fatal road accident, a passenger of Pathao ride-sharing service was killed when a Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) double-decker bus hit the motorcycle he was riding on the Airport road in the capital yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Nazmul Hasan Fuad, 32, senior officer of revenue assurance department with ADN Telecom. Fuad was going to his Mohakhali office.
The biker, Mofijul Islam, 25, survived the accident but sustained serious injuries. Fuad died on the spot when the bus hit the bike from behind around 9:30am.
Md Shairf Hossain, sub-inspector of Airport Police Station said that the bus hit the bike and both the riders fell down on the road and the bus ran over Fuad crashing his head.
As soon as the incident happened, police seized the bus and detained the driver, Azizul Haque, who was appointed by BRTC. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A case will be filed against the driver, said the sub-inspector.
Fuad is the latest victim in the long list of persons killed in road accidents in past few months. Just a day before, Sayeed Masud Rana, a student of BUBT, was killed by a speeding bus near Mirpur Sony cinema hall.
The event forcefully drove home the point that such mishaps are occurring regularly in the capital and rash drivers are getting away with impunity in the absence of exemplary punishment.
